Playwrights Horizons is a renowned theater venue located in the vibrant theater district of New York City. It is a not-for-profit theater venue dedicated to the support and development of contemporary American playwrights, composers, and lyricists, and to the exceptional production of their innovative work. Playwrights Horizons was established in 1971 and since then, it has presented the work of more than 400 writers and has received innumerous awards including a Pulitzer Prize. The theater boasts two performance spaces - the Main Stage and the Peter Jay Sharp Theater. This 42-year old venue is also known for its intimate setting, allowing audiences to be closer to the performances and experience the magic of theater up close.

Playwrights Horizons is centrally located at 416 West 42nd Street, between 9th and 10th Avenues. It is easily accessible via public transport with several subway lines such as the A, C, E, N, Q, R, S, W, 1, 2, 3, and 7 lines stopping at Times Square 42nd Street. Playwrights Horizons - TodayTix

Playwrights Horizons is an Off-Broadway institution dedicated to producing new works from both veteran and aspiring American contemporary playwrights, composers, and lyricists. Founded in 1971, the nonprofit company started at the Clark Center Y and moved to 42nd Street.

The current Playwrights Horizons building is constructed on the site of a former burlesque venue and holds two stages for Off-Broadway productions. The Mainstage Theater has a 198-seat capacity, while the slightly smaller Peter Jay Sharp Theater has 128 seats.

Playwrights Horizons offers a range of developmental programs including script readings and musical theatre workshops. It also houses the Playwrights Horizons Theater School, an affiliate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
